北京時間2023年10月24日，美國物理學會（American Physical Society）宣布：中國科學院院士、清華大學教授，南方科技大學校長薛其坤獲得本年度的巴克利獎（2024 Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize）。這是該獎自1953年設立以來。首次頒發給中國籍物理學家。

　　巴克利獎被公認為是國際凝聚態物理領域的最高獎，旨在表彰在凝聚態物理領域作出卓越貢獻的科學家。

　　薛其坤和美國哈佛大學教授Ashvin Vishwanath共同憑借“對具有拓撲能帶結構的材料的集體電子性質的開創性理論和實驗研究（groundbreaking theoretical and experimental studies on the collective electronic properties of materials that reflect topological aspects of their band structure）”獲獎。
